Braniff International became the first US airline in the world to operate Concorde and the first to operate it in the United States as well as the interior United States. As early as 1962, Braniff became interested in supersonic jet travel an ultimately placed deposits on two US SST aircraft and in 1967, it announced its intention to purchase 3 Concorde aircraft. However, because of the massive increases in jet fuel during 1973 and 1974, the Concorde order was canceled. Braniff continued to fid ways to operate Concorde and in 1977 an agreement was signed between Braniff and Air France and British Airways for the carrier to lease eleven Concordes (five from Air France and six from British Airways) to begin an interchange service between Dallas/Ft. Worth and Washington Dulles and London Heathrow via British Airways and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport via Air France. It was truly a magnificent time in the history of Braniff, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas and the United States. Concorde is elegantly screened on back while the classic Concorde Ultra Emblem is on the front of this 100-precent cotton Iris Blue shirt!
